TGH is the area’s only level I trauma center and one of just two ABA-verified adult & pediatric burn centers in Florida. With five medical helicopters*, we transport critically injured or ill patients from 23 surrounding counties to receive the advanced care they need. The hospital is home to one of the busiest solid organ transplant centers in the country. TGH is a nationally designated comprehensive stroke center, and has a 32-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit. Tampa General Hospital is home to one of the busiest transplant programs in both the state of Florida and the nation. The transplant units have private rooms dedicated to organ transplant and post-intensive care ventricular assist device (VAD) patients. The nursing team works closely with Tampa General Medical Group (TGMG) specialists, delivering exceptional care using a multidisciplinary approach. This team includes physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical specialists, financial counselors and transplant coordinators.
For more than two decades, TGH has been a leader in the organ transplantation, performing over 11,000 transplants since inception. Having more than doubled the size of the program in the last 3 years, we are looking for experienced Liver Transplant Surgeons. Based on the new Liver Allocation System, our median meld at Transplant is increasing and our median time to transplantation is lengthening. Therefore, we are starting a live donor liver transplant program. Surgeons with LDLT experience are strongly preferred.
Under general supervision, following established policies, procedures and professional guidelines, delivers medical care to patients. Plans medical care, documents medical assessments, identifies and refers situations that require intervention. Formulates and communicates goals and plan of care, assuring patient rights. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine. Completion of an accredited residency program. Board certification within the time frame established by the applicable Specialty Medical Staff Department. Unrestricted licensure to practice as a physician in the State of Florida. Experience with live donor liver transplant (LDLT) required.
