The Emory University Division of Pediatric Nephrology and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta are seeking to hire two pediatric nephrologists to join our very collegial group of 12 pediatric nephrologists, and thus plan to have 14 faculty in 2022.
This position is predominantly clinical, although there are many opportunities to engage in quality improvement, clinical research, and education. Our division is very active clinically. We average 25-30 pediatric kidney transplants per year and follow more than 200 kidney transplant recipients. We follow 40-50 pediatric dialysis patients. We have dedicated clinics for kidney transplantation, peritoneal dialysis, hypertension, transition of kidney transplant patients, and chronic kidney disease. Our ACGME accredited fellowship program was founded in 2007 and we currently have 5 superb fellows, with funding to expand to 6 fellows in 2022. Since 2006, our program has grown from two faculty and one APP to 12 faculty, six APPs and five fellows. The fellowship program is funded by Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, our non-profit childrens hospital. Childrens is currently building a beautiful, 19 story hospital on more than 70 acres that will include a clinic building and over 20 acres of greenspace (see attached). Childrens will then have over 800 beds. There are excellent opportunities for clinical research utilizing our NIH funded Pediatric Research Center within Childrens. There are cores for processing and storage of patient samples, grant writing, and statistical support. Our division has over 30 IRB approved protocols and five full-time research coordinators; it is one of the most active pediatric nephrology clinical research programs in the United States. Emory was the #1 recipient of NIH funding for pediatric departments for 2020. Atlanta is a vibrant and diverse city with excellent entertainment, dining, and sports activities. A transportation hub and home to many major corporations, Atlanta offers mild weather and affordable housing.
Employment will be in the Emory + Children's Pediatric Institute. The Emory + Childrens Pediatric Institute is an affiliation between Emory University and Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta that is improving the lives of children in Georgia and beyond. The Pediatric Institute combines the unique strengths and resources of each institution in support of our three-part academic missions of providing outstanding clinical care, conducting innovative basic science discovery and clinical research, and coordinating exceptional education of the future healthcare workforce.
Our physicians, researchers, and educators have created a model where leadership, commitment and quality are fundamental components of success. Together, we are transforming pediatrics by achieving new levels of clinical excellencedriven by research, teaching and wellness. We look forward to our future together.
