The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for a faculty position in the Pediatric Cancer Outcomes Program. We are seeking a strong candidate in the areas of behavioral intervention statistical methodology and public health related research methodologies. This new position is an important component of the Centers strategic plan for a strong clinical research program, and represents the next major step in the expansion of a world-class Pediatric Cancer Outcomes Program.
About the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center provides a rich and collaborative environment for clinical research, with a well-funded Clinical Research Office directed by a senior faculty epidemiologist focused in clinical outcomes research.
The successful candidate will join one of the strongest pediatric cancer outcomes programs in the country. Established in 2001, our cancer survivor program follows over 1700 pediatric and adolescent cancer survivors and is composed of a multi-disciplinary team including oncologist, endocrinologist, psychologist, advance practice providers, and nursing. Established cancer survivor research areas include: communication/perceptions, cardiovascular, psychology, transition of care, sexual health, health policy and economics, and health system technologies. Our oncology program cared for more than 400 new cancer cases last year. The Leukemia/Lymphoma program represents one of the largest in the country, with over 130 newly diagnosed cases treated here each year. We represent pediatrics within Emorys NCI-designated Winship Cancer Center. Established Leukemia/Lymphoma research areas include: cost effectiveness analyses, clinical effectiveness research, adverse event reporting, patient reported outcomes, healthcare disparities, and late effects of new anti-cancer therapies. Childrens Healthcare of Atlantathe only tertiary pediatric center in the dynamic metropolitan Atlanta areaserves a population of nearly 10 million people, providing a strong basis for clinical programs in rare disorders.
This position will allow collaborations with the Rollins School of Public Health, affiliations with the neighboring American Cancer Society, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, offering a wealth of opportunities for research collaborations. This position will also be in conjunction with the Winship Cancer Institute is a NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center with 150 core members from across Emorys schools of public health, medicine, and nursing conducting research in the population, clinical, and basic sciences. Candidates will be expected to qualify for membership in the Cancer Prevention and Control research program, one of four research programs in the cancer center (www.winshipcancer.emory.edu), with members conducting research in cancer epidemiology, biomarkers, and chemoprevention; health behavior research; symptom management and control; and health outcomes and quality of care.
Requirements: Doctoral degrees in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field; strong record of or high potential for methodologic research; ability for scientific collaborative research, excellent oral and written communication skills. This candidate will be expected to provide in-depth biostatistics expertise including development of appropriate experimental design for grant applications, data management, scientifically sound analytic approaches, and interpretation of research data. Experience with healthcare datasets (for example, commercial or Medicaid claims and enrollment data) and cloud computing environments is desired but not required. Candidates will require a strong record of scholarship, and be expected to work in a collaborative fashion as well as become an independent investigator, conducting nationally recognized pediatric cancer outcomes research.
