The University of Otago, Wellington, in association with Capital and Coast District Health Board, seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Paediatrics with clinical and research expertise in Paediatric Sleep Medicine +/- Paediatric Respiratory Medicine.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for a clinical academic to establish themselves in one of the leading medical schools in Australasia.
The appointee will provide leadership in teaching and research in the field of Paediatrics and Child Health, while supporting an effective and efficient inpatient and outpatient service for Paediatrics and Child Health patients in the Wellington regions. There are opportunities for wide collaboration with researchers in the University's well regarded medical and biomedical science departments.
In addition to holding the position of Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Paediatrics at the University of Otago, Wellington the appointee will concurrently hold a position as Consultant Paediatrician at the Capital and Coast District Health Board.
This is a joint University/Hospital position and will be held as a single contract with the University. The two separate roles equal the equivalent of one full-time position.

Academic Component - 0.5 FTE:
The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Otago, Wellington and appointed to the position of Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor dependent on academic achievement, skills, and experience.
The appointee will have academic qualifications and prior experience in teaching and research, and will be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. There will be significant opportunity for clinically based research.
Clinical Component - 0.5 FTE:
Wellington Hospital is part of Capital and Coast District Health Board providing care for the Wellington region as well as tertiary care for the Central New Zealand Region (pop. 1.1 million). The Children's Health department at Capital and Coast District Health Board provides an integrated mix of inpatient/outpatient/day patient and domiciliary services for infants, children and young people from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnicities from birth up to sixteen years of age.
Services are delivered in Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals, Puketiro Centre, Kapiti Health Centre, outreach clinics and the infants and children's own homes.
The successful applicant will lead the local Paediatric Sleep Medicine Service and patient care will form 50% of weekly duties. This will be mostly through outpatient clinical work but also some inpatient work. Additional payment is made for clinical duties outside of regular hours, in negotiation with the Capital and Coast District Health Board and WellSleep, the sleep laboratory run by the University of Otago Wellington.
