JOB SUMMARY:
Research Position in HIV-1 Molecular Biology
A laboratory in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center seeks a highly motivated Research Assistant I to perform laboratory research to advance our understanding of the function of the viral capsid during HIV-1 infection.
Minimum requirements are a B.S. degree or equivalent in chemistry, biology, or a related field. An understanding of biochemical principles and experience with biochemical and molecular biology methods is a plus, as are strong quantitative skills.

JOB DUTIES:
- With supervision, perform laboratory experiments including molecular cloning procedures, cell culture experiments, and quantitative assays of proteins and nucleic acids.
- Maintain accurate and complete written and electronic records of experimental procedures and results.
- Communicate research results to the Principal Investigator and in weekly group meetings.
- Assist with maintenance of laboratory equipment and inventory of laboratory materials.
- Help ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulatory reporting requirements.
Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment.
