Associate Health Services Research Analyst

Job Summary:

The Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH) seeks an Associate Health Services Research Analyst who will work on the Hausa Brain Health Collaborative - a series of projects focused on improving the health of people with brain disorders among the Hausa-speaking people of Africa with a focus on northern Nigeria. Current active studies include two large NIH-funded five-year projects.

1. Bridging the Childhood Epilepsy Treatment Gap in Africa (BRIDGE) is enrolling about 1800 children into a cluster randomized clinical trial comparing task-shifting epilepsy care to epilepsy-trained community health workers compared to physician care at 60 sites in three cities in northern Nigeria.
2. Childhood Status Epilepticus and Epilepsy Determinants of Outcome (SEED) is a large cohort study that will enroll 1650-1800 children with status epilepticus (SE) in Kano, Nigeria, where currently the short-term SE-associated mortality is about 23%. SEED will (a) conduct detailed phenotyping of childhood SE, (b) determine clinical and genomic predictors of SE-associated short- and long-term outcomes, and (c) determine clinical and genomic predictors of the development of epilepsy among children who survive their first seizure as SE.

The Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH) builds capacity through interdisciplinary global health education and training programs, conducts implementation science and research, and provides technical assistance service to government and civil sector organizations in countries supported by the President's Emergency Plan for HIV/AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through an an affiliated organization, Friends in Global Health (FGH).

SHIFT:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.

Expected responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Under general supervision of the Program Manager and Data Manager, the successful candidate will undertake some or all of the following tasks: 1) create, edit, and maintain REDCap surveys, 2) obtain and merge data as needed, 3) format, clean, and prepare data for analysis, 4) undertake statistical analyses, 5) create reports using R, 6) present data at weekly team meetings, 7) maintain data integrity and security, 8) manage meeting minutes and team files, 9) produce reports for adverse events.

This position is responsible for providing support for complex qualitative and quantitative research. Activities may include coordinating specific study activities, data analysis, and report preparation. This position will also provide some general administrative support for the studies' Program Manager.

The successful candidate will effectively communicate with team members, ask for help when needed, and complete assignments in a timely manner. Much of this position will require trouble shooting, so the selected candidate will also self-motivated and have good problem-solving skills.
