A microbiology laboratory in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology) seeks a full time Research Assistant I to work on projects related to microbial biobanking. This individual will be involved in a novel translational project that brings together the resources/expertise of the diagnostic and basic microbiology laboratory environments. He/she will perform laboratory protocols that include bacteriologic and fungal culture, along with nucleic acid manipulation. Previous hands-on experience with these techniques is optimal. The position will likewise entail data entry and analysis, so basic computational proficiency is necessary (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets). This position represents an opportunity to gain and apply skills that pertain to both environments, as well as be involved in academic publications.
The Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt has a long and rich history of excellence in teaching, clinical service, and research. Our collaborative efforts in personalized medicine in cancer, pharmacogenomics and the creation of Diagnostic Management Teams are at the "leading edge" of a revolution in the practice of pathology. The department lives and breathes our mantra that we are a "laboratory of the whole" for defining the future of pathology. We are committed to taking a leadership role in both basic and translational research in these areas of focus.
