JOB SUMMARY:
The Vanderbilt Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) is looking for a Senior PHP Software Engineer to join our team and help develop the software that manages our Institutional Review Board processes.
In this position, you will be part of a small programming team updating, enhancing and supporting a legacy Symfony application. You will work with the leaders of the HRPP department and a Manager of Application Development to understand stakeholder needs and develop features and changes that will impact their daily work. You will also be part of a larger team of PHP developers who collaborate on best practices and sensible solutions across projects. And best of all, you will be involved in helping to improve the lives of millions through medical research.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop software that meets the needs of our users
- Write code that is clean, tested, secure, maintainable and performant
- Work with stakeholders to refine requirements and understand their real needs
- Collaborate with other developers across teams on system integrations and best practices
- Design systems that adhere to security and process compliance
- Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines (we use GitHub Actions)
- Collaborate with cloud and DevOps engineers on application infrastructure, automation, deployment, and security
- Stay current with contemporary software engineering best practices

Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (Required) and 5 years experience
***Desired Skills and Experience ***
- 5+ years of web programming experience, preferably in PHP
- Experience working in an MVC framework such as Symfony or Laravel
- Strong knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript)
- Experience with modern programming tools (Git, Docker, CI/CD, etc.)
- Ability to talk with the right people to figure out what to build, then independently design and program the solution
- Good at communicating and working well with non-technical people
- Desire to convert a critical legacy application into modern, clean, modular, beautiful code
