Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Chair of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine in Wilmington, DE. The Chair serves as the academic and operational leader for the department and sets vision and direction for the program. The Chair also represents pediatric anesthesiology at our academic partner, The Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University (TJU), where Nemours faculty members hold academic appointments.
Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware (formerly Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children) is a free-standing tertiary and quaternary care hospital located in Wilmington, DE that serves as the flagship hospital for Nemours Children's Health. The hospital cares for patients primarily from the tri-state area of Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, and also attracts patients for subspecialty services from 49 states and more than 30 countries. The department provides anesthetic care for the entire gamut of pediatric surgical cases including heart, liver and kidney transplantation, trauma, orthopedic, and cardiac surgery. There are three geographic sites of service---the main campus in Wilmington and ambulatory surgery centers in Deptford, NJ and Bryn Mawr, PA. The department routinely collaborates on academic and quality initiatives with colleagues at other Nemours enterprise locations in Florida including Wolfson Children's Hospital (Jacksonville) and Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida (Orlando).
The Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine has a strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, research and education and strives to deliver the highest level of care to all children. There is an incredibly strong partnership with our surgical colleagues and the department continues to develop standardized processes for the entire perioperative experience. These efforts have led to the rapid growth of regional anesthesia (including spinal anesthesia), ERAS protocols and use of non-narcotic adjuncts as part of an opioid stewardship initiative. Through strong interdisciplinary work and senior leadership support, NCH, Delaware received level 1 certification last year from the American College of Surgeons Children's Surgical Verification Program. NCH, Delaware was one of the original NSQIP sites and continues to be an active participant in this important initiative.
The Chair of Pediatric Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine is a strategic leader in the organization, and will help drive key initiatives including academic and clinical preeminence, value-based care, and surgical volumes. Well qualified candidates will have pediatric anesthesia board certification, associate or full professor academic rank, knowledge of healthcare management and finance, and prior leadership experience.
