SLUCare Physician Group, a member of SSM Health is seeking applicants for Clinical Geneticist positions available in the Division of Medical Genetics of the Department of Pediatrics. The appointments are anticipated to be at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor. Rank and salary are dependent on qualifications and experience. Candidates for the positions should have ABMG active candidate status or certification as a Clinical Geneticist or Biochemical Geneticist.
Responsibilities will include participation in clinical care, medical education and administrative duties. The Division of Medical Genetics provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital and other area hospitals and outreach clinic sites. Under the direction of Stephen R. Braddock, MD, the Division includes two MD clinical geneticists, a PhD clinical cytogeneticist, a PhD molecular geneticist, and 8 genetic counselors.
The Division also provides prenatal genetic services in concert with the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health and cancer risk counseling via the SSM Health system. Faculty members in the Division are actively involved in clinical and molecular genetics research projects. Comprehensive cytogenetics, molecular genetics and biochemical genetics diagnostic laboratories are available on site.
Excellent opportunities for teaching in both didactic and clinical settings are available at the medical student and post-graduate levels. The candidate should have an interest in academic and scholarly achievement in clinical genetics.

SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital is a 195 bed free standing hospital and ambulatory care center located in midtown St. Louis, and it serves a diverse population from the inner city, the metropolitan area, and a 200-mile referral radius. The pediatric staff includes over 100 full time site-based Saint Louis University School of Medicine faculty.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for obtaining call coverage by other medical staff members for holidays, vacations and other time off.
- Responsible for the standard of practice for patient population.
- Responsibility for maintaining a private office and all clinical decision making within the office during times of service.
- Acts as an advisor and consultant in the establishment of operational policies of the practice to include: (1) Purchasing and capital allocations; (2) Managed care plan participation; (3) Budget and practice expenses; (4) Medicare/Medicaid participation; (5) Billing and collection of professional fees; (6) Personnel management and related policies; (7) Risk management and quality assurance; and (8) Coding compliance.
- Responsible for after-hours call coverage for patients of the practice, in addition to office appointments.
- Participates in community service activities, including speaking engagements, writing and special clinical programs as reasonably requested.
- Responsible for all risk management, coding compliance and quality assurance activities and functions in and related to the practice.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
