JOB SUMMARY:
Position Overview:
The Plosa lab investigates the role of integrin-epithelial cell interactions during lung development, alveolar homeostasis, and injury repair. We seek an analytical, creative, self-driven basic scientist with expertise in molecular biology and image analysis to join our team. The basic scientist will be responsible for conducting bench research and coordinating collaborative projects while also contributing to manuscript preparation, grant preparation, and training of students and postdoctoral fellows in the laboratory.
- Perform laboratory experiments and produce competent and reproducible results to a high technical standard
- Devise research methods, prepare technical specifications, and specify laboratory test equipment and processes
- Analyze data, and interpret and present results with minimal faculty supervision
- Design experiments and implement and standardize new processes and procedures based on expert knowledge of literature and subject matter
- Maintain detailed documentation and write formal scientific reports suitable for publication
- Prepare and/or maintain samples and specimens
- Manage laboratory personnel
- Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, pipetting machines, spectrometers, ELISA readers, as well as specialized equipment necessary to support the laboratory
- Perform mathematical calculations and generate relevant statistics to support scientific output
- Prepare materials suitable for institutional review of formal protocols and operating procedures with minimal faculty supervision
Qualifications:
Doctorate/PhD and < 2 years relevant experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- PhD in developmental biology, cell and molecular biology, genetics, immunology, or related fields with 0-2 years of post-graduate experience.
- Well versed in the practice of routine laboratory techniques in histology, biochemistry and protein characterization, flow cytometry and FACS, confocal microscopy, and image analysis.
- Excellent organization skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
