The Epidemiology Program in the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow who will work directly with Dr. Trang VoPham. The successful applicant will have a background in environmental epidemiology, cancer epidemiology, or related fields and will lead research projects focused on the application of geospatial science in cancer and environmental epidemiology.

Responsibilities

These projects include, but are not limited to, epidemiologic studies on associations and health disparities related to climate change factors, such as wildfire air pollution exposure, and cancer survival outcomes and examining environmental exposures, including location-based social determinants of health and geospatial light exposure modeling for environmental circadian misalignment and solar jetlag, in relation to liver disease. The Postdoctoral Fellow will have access to large-scale geospatial exposure databases and study populations to conduct these epidemiologic studies and will gain intensive applied training in geospatial analytics using geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing.

This Postdoctoral Fellowship is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Cancer Institute (NCI) T32 Training Program entitled "Contributing Factors and Consequences of Cancer Health Disparities" (T32 CA094880). This T32 Training Program is led by Dr. Amanda Phipps, Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Washington, and Dr. Christopher Li, Professor, Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Inclusion, and Associate Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The Postdoctoral Fellow will have many opportunities for first-author publications; preparing abstracts to present study results at scientific conferences; engagement in career and professional development activities; skills and practice in grant writing, disseminating scientific findings, and developing a long-term career plan; and collaboration with investigators on other environmental and/or cancer epidemiology projects. This T32 Training Program, which harnesses the exceptional scientific resources at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, provides a highly supportive, intellectually vibrant, and academically rigorous interdisciplinary environment to support trainees in developing knowledge and skills to conduct impactful independent research addressing the root causes and consequences of cancer health disparities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD or MD in epidemiology, environmental health, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with statistical programming (e.g., SAS)
• Experience with GIS (e.g., Esri ArcGIS Pro)
• Highly motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills

The annual base salary range for this position is from $65,484.00 to $100,000.00 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
