Phoenix Children’s Hospital has initiated a national search for an innovative leader in clinical and academic Anesthesiology who will serve as the inaugural Division Chief of Anesthesiology. This appointment will include academic affiliation at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, and Creighton Medical School.

This is a unique role for a gifted clinical and academic anesthesiologist who has a solid vision for teaching, clinical and research program development, and who appreciates the significance of collegial decision-making in an interdisciplinary structure. This position represents a distinctive role for a forward-focused leader who will provide strategic direction and administrative leadership in a Division that will be created for expansion and continued development to provide anesthesia care across the PCH system; including three hospital campuses and three ambulatory surgery centers. The current operating room and interventional capacity includes 12 inpatient OR’s and 17 ambulatory OR’s/GI endoscopy suites, two interventional radiology suites and two cardiac catheterization suites. In addition, anesthesia provides care in five MRI’s and in hematology/oncology clinic. Between 2022 and 2024 PCH will expand into two additional campuses which will increase OR suites by 12 additional rooms. The Division Chief is expected to have strong experience in recruiting and recognizing individual talent that will result in the creation of a nationally recognized Division of Anesthesia.
In addition to the characteristics noted above, applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD degree and be board-certified in anesthesia and pediatric anesthesia. They must provide documentation of achieved accomplishments, and demonstrated proof of mentorship, leadership, and scholarship in anesthesia. The successful candidate must possess effective interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills. It is expected that the candidate will be eligible for academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level of our affiliated medical schools.
